Brahma yoga is one of the four paths of Yoga according to the Hindu tradition, and it is based on the teachings of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The four paths of yoga are:
Karma yoga (the path of action)
Bhakti yoga (the path of devotion)
Jnana yoga (the path of knowledge)
Raja yoga (the path of meditation)
Brahma yoga is considered to be a form of Raja yoga, which emphasizes the practice of meditation and mindfulness as the means to attain the ultimate goal of self-realization. The focus of Brahma yoga is on cultivating a quiet mind and reaching a state of inner peace and stillness, which is believed to bring the practitioner closer to the divine.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which is a seminal text on Raja yoga, contains eight limbs (ashtanga) that describe a holistic path to spiritual growth and self-realization. Brahma yoga can be seen as a subset of the practices described in the Yoga Sutras, specifically the limbs of Dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (absorption in the divine). Through the practice of Brahma yoga, one aims to attain the highest state of consciousness, in which the individual self merges with the universal self.
